It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Norman Swanson on December 2, 2020 in the Kirkland Lake area. He is survived by his loving wife Debra and his children and stepchildren: April Swanson (Marc Grossinger), Kelly Swanson (Floyd McCormick), Patrick (Lisa) Daley, Erin (Joel) Gordon, Gordon (Rhea) Swanson and Lacey (Joe) Theoret. As Pop he will be missed by: Aleisha, Niel, Josh, Micah, Niya, Gabriel, Mikhaila and Kara. He is also survived by his siblings: Mary Ellen (late Mike) Petrunewhich, Tom (Maggie) Swanson, Mike (Susan) Swanson and Laura (Trevor) Blackburn. Too numerous to mention are the many aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Norman was born and raised for the most part in the Kirkland Lake area. When he was starting out he spent several years in southern Ontario but returned to the North. Over the years he has worked in different jobs but has stayed true to his love of trucks and heavy machinery. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Having the ‘gift of the gab’, he made friends easily with a joke, smart remark or a tall tale at the ready.
He loved a good discussion and to spend time with friends and family, especially the grandchildren. Often he could be found making things for them ranging from sand piles, mud bogs or a track in the back yard for the buggy and bikes, to swings and doll houses to name a few. That creativity would also result in practical jokes and pranks. He will be greatly missed by many.
In keeping with Norman’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations in his memory to the Kirkland District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry for your loss. Always full of life, always a twinkle, and the Swanson trademark, a hard and dedicated worker. First time I met Mike and Norm, I had a white Ford truck, hit a corner too fast on a country road in the middle of winter, they pulled me out. That was not the last time. Memories. I am also sorry for our loss.

This man played a huge part in my life and will continue to do so. Teaching me when I was 12 how to drive a transport truck (boy did my mother lay into him for that one). Willing to sleep in a sleeping bag in the middle of a field with me around a bonfire when I wanted to “sleep under the stars”. When I opened a new chapter in my life having returned to Canada he was the FIRST person to call and give me great advice, support and wisdom. I still hear him telling jokes and his laughter. It fills my heart. Norm and my dad are making cider up in heaven I have no doubt. There is a party going on up there and I look forward to seeing him and sharing laughter with him again when I go home.
