HARRINGTON, William “Bill”

Peacefully in his 87th year, we announce the passing of Bill on New Year’s Day, 2020 at Teck Pioneer Residence.  Bill is survived by his brothers Jimmy (Barbara) Harrington, Dwight (Vicky) Harrington, and sisters Ada (Earl) Burant, Shirley Emery and Judy Hayes, nieces Donna (Randy) Jack and Susan (Harold) Webber, nephew David Lauzon, as well as many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews from near and far. He is predeceased by his mother Ada, father Patrick “Paddy”, and siblings Mary Josephine Harrington, Francis Harrington, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Dolotowicz, Patricia “Pat” Burns and Patrick “Bud” Harrington, and nephew Kenneth Lauzon.

A life-long resident of Kirkland Lake, Bill was a spiritual man who attended Mass as often as he was able. He absolutely loved sports, and knew anything and everything about the players, their stats, families, etc. His personal passion for sports was for bowling, which he enjoyed for many years.

Bill’s family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the staff at Teck Pioneer Residence for their unwavering care and compassion.

My condolences to his family and loved ones.

I’m sure Mary was waiting with open arms to welcome her friend to heaven. I have so many memories of the two of them growing up, and even once I started working at the bowling alley. He’d always come in for a visit, and we’d talk hockey or baseball, depending on the season. And we’d make fun of my Dad together. He was such a character. He will be greatly missed. RIP Whiskey.

Cigar Bill or Whiskey taught me how to spot pins at Mary’s more than 50 years ago and was our honorary rec league hockey coach for more than a decade. Always fun to chat with and get his opinion on sports which he followed religiously. RIP old friend

Everybody loved Bill. Talk to him about what he knew for sure, you never argued because he knew for sure. He marked my perfect game of 450 back in 1988. Had the most gentle demeanor in his eyes when enjoying a good conversation with you! Another famous character of KL folk lore has past and will forever be in my memory!

Condolence from Brian Hamilton on January 4th, 2020 9:44 pm

To the Family
I am very sorry to hear the news concerning Bill . Like many others I can recall him setting pins in
the various bowling alleys in KL and being the expert on every sport. He was one of the many unique individuals in the town when almost everyone had a nickname. We always had such interesting conversations and like many I will miss “Whiskey Bill” !—Brian
